[00:00] - All right, so the Tesla Cybertruck [00:01] has been kind of an enigma. [00:03] It was revealed four years ago, almost to the day, [00:07] and ever since then it was kind of quiet. [00:09] But then we slowly started seeing them rolling [00:11] around like California a little bit [00:13] and then a couple in Texas. [00:14] And these were like prototype Cybertrucks, [00:16] and they were testing. [00:18] Turns out one of them was me. [00:21] Well, for a day anyway. [00:22] So what we have here is a near final Tesla Cybertruck. [00:27] It's not an actual delivery truck yet. [00:30] It's still one that they've been testing. [00:31] So there's some small, small prototyping [00:32] things here or there, [00:34] but everything that I'm about to show you [00:35] is what's going to show up in the customer's delivery trucks [00:38] starting basically right now. [00:40] So I've learned a lot about this truck [00:42] in my time testing it. [00:43] There are some surprising things about it, [00:45] some features that are really cool, [00:47] things that I think truck people are really gonna like, [00:49] but also some concerns that I have, some surprises. [00:54] Buckle up is gonna be a mega video. [00:56] Get subscribed. [00:56] There's a lot to it. [00:58] Let's take a look at the final Tesla Cybertruck. [01:01] (upbeat music) [01:15] (wipers squeaking) [01:17] All right, first things first, let's get to the specs. [01:19] Everyone wants to know the official numbers. [01:21] Everything on paper. [01:22] And it's funny because we'll get to this in a second, [01:24] but some things have actually changed [01:26] from the show truck that showed up on stage, [01:28] including the overall dimensions. [01:30] I'll get to that. [01:31] But the stuff that you probably care about [01:33] is the basics like price, range, speed, right? [01:37] So there are gonna be three configurations [01:39] of the Cybertruck. [01:40] This one that we're looking at here, [01:41] which you can't tell by looking at it, [01:42] but this is the triple motor version. [01:44] It's not quite the same as the Plaid powertrain, [01:48] but it is two in the rear, one in the front [01:51] and it's gonna be able to do zero to 60 in 2.7 seconds [01:55] and 11 second quarter mile. [01:57] It's got about 845 horsepower. [02:00] It has torque vectoring at the rear [02:02] and it's absurd. [02:03] They call it the beast. [02:05] It's a pretty ridiculous set of specs. [02:07] I think that makes it [02:09] the fastest production pickup truck factory ever. [02:12] But there's also going to be a dual motor version [02:15] that they also start to ship early [02:17] and eventually also a single motor real wheel drive version. [02:21] The triple motor is gonna start [02:23] at about a hundred thousand dollars. [02:24] So this is new information. [02:26] We kind of had a much lower idea [02:27] of what the price is gonna be at launch. [02:29] This is a hundred thousand dollars truck you're looking at, [02:31] expect somewhere around 75, 85,000 [02:35] for the dual motor version. [02:36] And then the single motor will be further down the road. [02:38] But the dual motor is still 600 plus horsepower [02:40] and still plenty fast. [02:42] But that's the general basics. [02:44] And as far as range, [02:46] we'll get to the wheels in a second, [02:48] but it's about a 340 mile max range [02:51] from the absolute most efficient version of this truck. [02:53] Now a couple other last numbers. [02:55] Things that I think some truck people will appreciate. [02:57] First of all, towing capacity and bed capacity. [03:01] Those are some things that Tesla's told me. [03:03] I'm gonna put the numbers up here. [03:04] I think it's 2,500 pounds for the bed, which is pretty cool. [03:07] And we also measured the truck, [03:08] because officially it's about 5% smaller [03:13] in every dimension from the original show truck, [03:16] the prototype that people have been seeing on stage. [03:18] So I measure it from front to back [03:20] and it's about from bumper to bumper, 224 inches. [03:24] We happen to have an F-150 Lightning here [03:27] that we've been directly comparing it to right over there. [03:31] We've got some onboard power [03:32] and all sorts of fun features here. [03:34] And so I'll mention when things like [03:35] that also appear on this truck, [03:37] but it's about the size of an F-150 Lightning [03:40] A little bit smaller. [03:42] Now speaking of the 5% shrinking dimension wise, [03:45] there are a lot of things that have changed about this truck [03:48] versus the original show car. [03:50] From front to back there's a lot. [03:52] There's a motorized front trunk, [03:53] there's so much to talk about in this video. [03:55] There is the world's largest windshield wiper, [03:59] which I'm sure you're curious about. [04:01] So we'll talk about that. [04:02] It does actually have side view mirrors. [04:06] They're removable and they've kind of done [04:09] all that they possibly can to make it able to be removed. [04:14] Like you can take this off, [04:15] it has to ship with this from the factory legally. [04:17] But there is a blind spot monitoring lights [04:20] inside the truck. [04:21] There are cameras here on the side of the truck [04:25] to show you that spot when you put your blinker on. [04:27] So you can just pop this off if you really wanted to. [04:29] And then also down at the side here, these wheels, [04:33] this is an arrow cap that is removable. [04:36] So let's just do that to start. [04:38] This is the premium tire that's going to come [04:41] on a 20 inch rim. [04:43] All of the initial trucks, triple motor, dual motor, [04:46] they'll all have this tire on. [04:47] It looks like it's a bespoke Goodyear tire. [04:49] It's got some neat little aesthetic tweaks [04:52] and I'm sure compound tweaks and tread stuff here. [04:54] But this is a plastic arrow cap [04:57] with like this outside rubber. [05:00] It's actually a two piece [05:01] and it'll get you a couple percent more range on the truck, [05:06] but if you don't like the look of it [05:08] or if you're off-roading, pop that off. [05:11] And that's how the truck's stock wheel will look. [05:15] A lot of grease and metal in there. [05:18] But this is a two part thing like I said. [05:20] So if I can rip this off, these are the two pieces [05:24] and the reason is two parts [05:25] is because actually one of these to line up [05:28] with the little rectangles on the tire. [05:30] So maybe you want to take the arrow caps off [05:33] to air down the tires and go off-roading [05:34] and you want maximum brake cooling, whatever you're doing. [05:37] But if you wanna put these back on, [05:38] you sort of line all this up [05:41] (cap clanging) [05:44] and then you take the plastic bit, [05:47] (cap clanging) [05:53] now you're back. [05:55] Get a shot of this, get a shot of my, [05:57] so I'm gonna probably not do that again [05:59] considering everything it just left on my hands. [06:03] But you get the idea, you can do that on all four tires, [06:05] 20 inch rims. [06:06] These again are the premium tires [06:08] and yeah, okay, great, moving on. [06:13] So okay, you kind of can't really tell the story [06:16] of the Cybertruck without addressing the fact [06:18] that it is a giant stainless steel triangle. [06:22] I mean it looks surreal. [06:24] Like there is not really a single curve [06:27] on this entire truck. [06:29] Every single piece, [06:30] these are giant pieces of stainless steel. [06:32] There's all sorts of sheen [06:34] and fingerprint implications that we'll talk about, [06:39] but I don't know it's an aesthetic thing, [06:41] like not a whole lot of curves. [06:43] Fine, that's pretty cool. [06:45] But then the other version of that conversation [06:47] is like look at how sharp the front of the, [06:50] some of these pieces here, how sharp it is. [06:52] Not that you're gonna like walk up [06:53] and poke the front of someone's truck very often, [06:55] but that's a sharp corner piece [06:58] of stainless steel right there and right there. [07:00] And then this front piece here, [07:02] it's this one huge big stamped piece [07:06] and I had a couple conversations with people, [07:07] engineers at Tesla about using stainless steel [07:09] on the body panels like this. [07:11] And they have these huge presses [07:12] that are stamping the stainless steel, [07:14] but steel has this sort of a spring back effect. [07:17] So you use a lot of force to stamp it in place, [07:18] but then it springs back really quickly. [07:21] So you have to stamp further than you need [07:23] to get it to unspring back to the part [07:24] that you want it to be at. [07:26] It's a whole complicated thing. [07:27] All of that is to say, [07:29] I've seen a bunch of Cybertrucks while I've been here [07:32] and they all have slightly different levels [07:35] of panel gaps, build quality in general. [07:39] This truck in particular that we're looking at, [07:42] it actually looks great. [07:43] I'm not gonna say it's micron levels of precision [07:46] or anything like that, [07:47] but generally panel gaps all the way around [07:49] are pretty small, pretty even, looks really good. [07:53] But I don't know, I don't know if I can promise that [07:55] for every truck, like even just this huge front piece here [07:59] has a little bit of like wavering. [08:01] It's not quite a perfect flat line. [08:04] So I'm not an expert on it, [08:06] but I'm just saying this is a truck, [08:08] you're probably not gonna care too much about looking [08:10] exactly perfect panel gap wise. [08:13] All right, the next thing we gotta talk about [08:14] is the Cybertrucks trunk, AKA, the truck bed. [08:20] There's a lot going on here, actually. [08:22] Look at this gigantic slope. [08:24] It kind of, it looks like a dump truck to me. [08:26] But one thing you should know is first of all, [08:29] a dampened opening for the tailgate, [08:33] but it's not a power opening tailgate. [08:34] So you will have to manually close the thing, [08:37] but it is a nice soft damp. [08:38] And then the other side is the powered tonneau cover. [08:42] Oh wait, I should do the thing. [08:44] They told me it could support up to 300 pounds. [08:48] So... [08:56] They told me I could do it, so here we are. [08:58] I'm not gonna jump, but I'm told 300 pounds of force [09:01] from somebody standing on one foot. [09:03] So I think if I jumped I could probably break the thing. [09:05] But the fact that I'm standing on it [09:07] and it's not breaking, that's pretty good. [09:08] And it's a motorized tonneau cover, [09:10] which means... [09:19] Pretty smooth, I gotta say. [09:21] Now once you're here, there's a bunch of stuff [09:23] I gotta talk about with this trunk. [09:25] First things first, you probably notice it slid down [09:27] and revealed a rear window, [09:29] which means number one, yes, there's a rear window. [09:32] It doesn't go up and down, [09:34] but at least you have that glass there. [09:35] And two, yes, that means [09:37] that when you close the tonneau cover [09:38] you are completely blocking your rear visibility. [09:42] We'll get to that later. [09:44] So the other thing you probably noticed [09:45] is when we first saw the Cybertruck, [09:48] I did a video about this on the auto-focus channel. [09:50] The bed was just like bare stainless steel. [09:52] It looked kind of sick, it looked crazy, [09:55] but you'll notice now it is fully lined. [09:57] Tesla said they took it out [09:58] and talked to some construction people about it [10:00] and were like, "All right, what do you think of this truck? [10:02] "What do you think of the bed?" [10:03] And they were like, "This is awesome. [10:04] "But the first thing I would do is spray line this [10:06] "so I could not damage it." [10:07] So they just figured they would line it themselves. [10:09] Nice thick lining here. [10:12] The bed size, the official length of the bed for the F-150, [10:17] the lightning got over there was 66 inches on paper. [10:21] Now when I line this up here, [10:23] I get all the way to 72 inches. [10:26] So it's a solid six foot bed, [10:29] but there's a little bit of overhang over here. [10:31] So if I subtract a little bit to account for that, [10:34] it's about the same 66 inches. [10:35] And there's a little bit of a sub trunk, [10:38] which is pretty cool to see. [10:40] So a lot of EVs now have sort of a sub trunk area. [10:43] This one no different. [10:45] You can definitely fit duffel bag in there, [10:48] probably a full carry-on bag [10:50] and there is a drain plug, [10:52] so if you wanna make a cooler out of it [10:54] and tailgate it's a pretty good vehicle to do that. [10:57] There's also some bed lighting you can see [10:59] on the left and right. [11:00] There's lots of lights [11:01] and there's also this sort of a latch system. [11:05] So all sorts of latch points [11:06] where you can tie things down with cables. [11:10] What you're probably noticing though is [11:12] there's no spare tire, no spare wheel. [11:15] If you do want one, you can buy one separately [11:18] and tie it up in the trunk but you don't get one by default. [11:22] And then the other thing is [11:25] there's power in the trunk. [11:26] So two 120 volts here and one 240 volt. [11:31] If you want to charge a vehicle with a nine kilowatts out, [11:36] you can use literally the thing [11:37] you'd plug into a dryer outlet. [11:39] You can plug that in here, [11:40] plug it into a vehicle [11:41] and give battery to another EV. [11:43] So just in general, I'm glad that more EVs are doing this, [11:45] having the ability to power other things [11:47] and actually charge. [11:48] You could actually theoretically power your house with this [11:51] if you have the right inverter, [11:53] but 11 kilowatts out of the charge port, [11:56] 9.6 kilowatts out of the 240 volt onboard. [12:00] All great stuff to have. [12:01] I should also mention small detail, [12:04] bottle cap opener over there [12:06] and then some more mounting points [12:07] for cables and things like that. [12:09] That's the truck bed of the Cybertruck. [12:13] There's some lights that we'll talk about in a second, [12:15] but let's close the tonneau cover. [12:22] Oh, something I just noticed. [12:23] If you press the button, [12:25] it does the whole thing or if you hold the button, [12:28] it goes until you let go. [12:30] That's a lie. [12:33] It was doing that up until that point. [12:36] See wait, okay, this is weird. [12:40] It didn't do it that time, [12:42] but it seems like if I hold it down, [12:44] whenever I let go, it stops, [12:46] and if I just press it, it goes all the way [12:49] until I cancel it, [12:51] which it doesn't wanna cancel over there. [12:52] Okay, I'm learning in real time. [12:54] Close the whole thing. [12:56] Tell me when to cancel. [13:01] I knew it. [13:02] Alright, we gotta talk about these doors, [13:03] 'cause there's actually a lot to it. [13:05] So first of all, a lot of times on a concept car [13:06] or a prototype, you'll see there's no door handles [13:09] and you're like, oh, that's cute. [13:10] But when you ship the thing, [13:12] you're gonna have door handles eventually. [13:14] No door handles on the cyber truck [13:15] and they're sticking to it. [13:17] I have my concerns about this. [13:18] So basically how this works is there's a little button [13:21] right here that's indented. [13:23] You press that button and when it's unlocked [13:26] it sort of pushes it out maybe two inches. [13:28] Then you grab in here [13:30] and open the whole door and then you close it. [13:33] (door slamming) [13:34] The auto presented windows, [13:35] they all close themselves up here, [13:36] they're frameless windows. [13:38] That's cool. [13:39] It works. [13:40] Same thing actually back here. [13:42] Smaller button. [13:42] You press it, it opens it and it works. [13:46] And this is actually a full 90 degree door. [13:47] I love that there's like stainless steel in here. [13:50] It's very clearly all metal. [13:52] (door slamming) [13:53] It's got a nice thunk to it too. [13:55] But what I've noticed, [13:57] and this is something you'd already be thinking of [13:58] if you live in the northeast or something, [14:00] is if it's cold, or if it's raining [14:02] or if it's frozen, [14:03] if there's like an inch of ice over here, [14:05] is this gonna work? [14:07] Tesla's telling me, and this is a, [14:08] this is a California company that tells me these things, [14:11] but they're telling me up to an inch of ice. [14:13] If you can break through that ice [14:14] and press this button, [14:15] it'll push with enough force [14:17] to open it and break the ice off. [14:20] I hope that's true. [14:21] That's debatable, we'll see. [14:23] But the other thing about that is I think a lot of people [14:25] are going to open it down here on the stainless steel [14:29] (door slamming) [14:30] and you can see the fingerprints go so hard [14:34] when you open it like that. [14:35] And because there's no door handles, [14:36] there's not really a good way [14:38] of telling someone how to get in. [14:39] So a lot of people are just gonna grab it right there [14:42] and fingerprint, look at, there's just tons of fingerprints [14:45] on the side here. [14:46] So I don't know, there's gonna be a lot of Cybertrucks [14:48] floating around with lots of fingerprints [14:50] around the place that people's hands go to open the doors. [14:54] All right, front of the truck here. [14:55] Couple things that are of note. [14:57] First of all, if we go down low, [14:58] this plastic bumper pretty solid, [15:01] but also there's two tow hitch rigs on the front, [15:05] which is awesome. [15:06] There is a front camera for the first time ever in a Tesla, [15:10] believe it or not. [15:11] It's useful on a truck like this [15:12] where you can't actually see over the front. [15:15] Then you have this huge daytime running light, [15:17] but also the headlights, the actual headlights [15:19] are just these slots down here. [15:20] I'll show some night, you'll see some night driving footage. [15:23] So you'll see what the headlights look like. [15:24] But then the thing everybody's been asking about [15:26] and I've seen mostly on Twitter [15:27] is there actually a front trunk in here? [15:29] If so, how big is it? [15:31] Yes, there's a front trunk [15:32] and it's automatically opening [15:34] so you just reach in and push the button [15:35] in like that and it's a pretty shallow front trunk, [15:40] I gotta say. [15:42] This is also the part where I feel compelled [15:44] to mention that I haven't seen a single Tesla logo yet [15:47] on this entire truck. [15:48] It's mostly branded with Cybertruck [15:51] in this kind of a welded text, which is kind of cool, [15:56] but it's a pretty shallow front trunk. [15:57] I mean I can sit in here [15:58] and you're probably seeing much too shaded right now, [16:02] so it's kind of tough to understand how big it is, [16:03] but it's only maybe the size of two [16:07] of these Ridge suitcases. [16:10] So I'm gonna put two Ridge carry-ons [16:12] in the front of this thing, [16:15] see if I can actually fit both. [16:18] 'Cause this is basically the exact size [16:20] you'd want for like an airplane overhead. [16:22] If you actually had to travel [16:23] with stuff in the front trunk, could you fit it? [16:29] (alarm beeping quietly) [16:30] Not quite, it's really close. [16:32] I think maybe you might have to do some Jenga [16:36] (suitcases shuffling) to turn them down. [16:41] As long as they're behind this seal [16:43] I think I'm good. [16:45] Take two. (trunk clicking) [16:48] Okay, so that's basically your exact limit [16:51] is two Ridge carry-ons. [16:53] Shout out to Ridge for sponsoring this video. [16:56] So these Ridge carry-ons which are in these nice colors. [16:58] They also have a 30% thicker shell [17:00] than a standard carry on while staying lightweight. [17:03] Some nice carbon fiber accents, [17:05] a durable and grippy handle [17:06] and they're weatherproof. [17:07] So wherever you go, if it's raining, you're good. [17:10] And if you want a matching Ridge wallet, [17:11] it literally comes in the same colors. [17:13] So you've got Royal black, Alpine Navy, Basecamp Orange [17:17] and Matte olive. [17:18] And shout out to Ridge for offering [17:20] a 99 day risk-free trial. [17:22] So if you don't like it for any reason within 99 days, [17:25] you can literally send it back [17:26] for a refund, no questions asked. [17:28] So check out the bags, the wallets [17:29] and everything else Ridge makes [17:31] and get a special offer at my link below [17:33] or at ridge.com/mkbhd. [17:35] Alright, so now let's get to the interior [17:39] (door banging) of the Cybertruck. [17:41] And once again, there's a lot going on, [17:44] but I think probably the first thing you notice [17:47] is the only curve in the entire interior [17:50] is this steering wheel. [17:52] And yes, it's a wheel, it's not a yolk. [17:54] I'm pretty sure when they first showed the car, [17:56] one of the big things they showed was [17:57] it had a yolk and it had this crazy like marble shelf [18:02] at the front. [18:03] Now it's looking a lot more normal car-like, [18:07] but there are still a lot to go over. [18:08] So first of all, this glass, [18:11] this glass canopy from the nose of the car basically [18:15] all the way back to right in front of my head [18:18] is the single largest piece of glass [18:20] in the entire automotive industry. [18:23] Like if you tried to order a piece of glass this big [18:25] for a house would be a big piece of glass. [18:27] But this is the biggest windshield we've ever seen. [18:30] And it kind of is this nice dramatic canopy [18:33] when you're just like looking around [18:34] and visibility in the truck is very good. [18:37] You also have these little removable sunshades [18:43] that are actually pretty big [18:44] and there's this nice, look at this magnetic connector [18:47] (connector clicking) up top to get that in place. [18:49] So that's cool and everything. [18:50] But aside from that, no other curves. [18:53] Lots of straight angles and triangles and things like that. [18:57] A good amount of door storage. [18:58] So I think you could fit probably [19:00] two water bottles in there. [19:02] There's some tray storage up here. [19:05] Then you get up to here [19:06] and there's all four window controls, [19:08] the door latch to electronically open it, [19:10] but also the emergency door latch open. [19:12] So if you lose power every door [19:14] that's electronically latched [19:15] has to have that manual opening as well. [19:17] And then in the middle [19:18] you've got just kind of a bunch of open space. [19:21] I kind of like the pedals down there. [19:22] I think they're metal. [19:23] But then you have just this big open tray space, [19:26] which I believe the Rivian also has. [19:28] And then in front two wireless chargers, [19:31] two cup holders, a big old armrest in the middle [19:35] and a bunch of storage in here, [19:36] including another 120 volt outlet [19:38] and a single 65 watt USBC charging port. [19:43] And then you're sort of in the cabin [19:46] and this is where I think you kind of return [19:50] to the normal Tesla look, [19:51] which is very minimal. [19:53] I do like this material better [19:56] than what they had before, [19:57] though it's not the best build in the world. [20:01] Tesla's been improving with their build quality, [20:03] but it is what it is. [20:05] But you can literally, [20:06] you can like lose something in front of you. [20:08] Like if I put like a, like a marble or a pizza box [20:12] or something it, it could slide forward. [20:13] Of course I could accelerate and get it back, [20:15] but there's just a ton of room. [20:17] And then I'm thinking about visibility [20:19] over the nose of the car. [20:21] Man, it's not great. [20:24] I feel like the more I drive this car, [20:25] the more I get accustomed to the size of it. [20:27] But I really don't feel like [20:29] I'm looking right down over the nose. [20:31] I'm looking out at the end of the windshield [20:34] and then sort of guessing where the nose is. [20:36] So, okay, a couple of the smaller things. [20:37] First of all, this light up here, [20:40] touch sensitive, I think that's pretty cool. [20:42] There's ambient lights all the way around the cabin [20:43] and you can change the color of that with RGB with software. [20:46] I'll get to the software in a second. [20:48] There's also an interior facing cabin camera [20:50] and there would normally be, [20:51] this is one of the prototyping things, [20:53] but there would normally be a regular rear view camera here. [20:56] Now as I mentioned, you don't actually get to see [21:00] out the back from the mirror if your tonneau cover [21:02] is closed, but there also is no camera option [21:07] for that rear view mirror to turn into a feed from a camera [21:10] instead that will always be on the screen. [21:14] And I think I've found that that's, it's actually fine. [21:16] You just sort of train yourself [21:17] to glance at the top of the screen [21:19] instead of at where the mirror normally is. [21:21] But that's something to note. [21:23] And one more thing, what was I gonna say? [21:25] Oh yeah, huge tinted roof over your head, [21:29] all the way back over the passenger's heads [21:30] and a ton of speakers. [21:32] Not a single curve to any of the speaker grills, [21:35] but there are speaker grills all over this cabin [21:37] and they're all either trapezoids or squares. [21:40] Okay, something I've just realized, [21:42] I thought that it was required [21:44] that the only actual physical button [21:46] you need in your car is the hazards button. [21:49] This truck does not have a hazards button, [21:51] it has a touch sensitive hazards thing. [21:54] But then there's also your park, reverse, [21:56] neutral and drive gears [21:57] if you actually wanna change them [21:59] up above your head. [22:02] I've never seen that there're in any car, ever actually. [22:06] Typically it's right in front of you [22:07] with the paddles shifters or your gear selectors [22:10] and you can still do it on the screen [22:12] like you can in other Teslas. [22:13] But that, that's new. [22:15] That's definitely new. [22:17] Okay, now the backseat of the Cybertruck, [22:22] it's weirder than you think. [22:24] All right, first of all, [22:25] I like that the door's open 90 degrees, [22:27] you get the seat back in front of you, [22:29] really good rear leg room. [22:32] Mostly because the seat in front of me [22:34] is on these cool Cybertruck looking rectangular risers. [22:37] But that means I have real space [22:39] to put my feet under the seat in front of me, [22:40] which is huge for leg room. [22:42] So either side, totally fine, middle, [22:45] not the best leg room ever, [22:47] but still a totally great backseat. [22:47] Got another screen back here [22:48] that I'll show you in a second. [22:50] There's a little bit of seat back storage, [22:51] but check this out. [22:52] There's a little trick to the back seat. [22:54] Just for storage, so although you already [22:56] have a front trunk and a rear trunk, [22:58] if you want even more covered storage [23:01] with this latch right here, [23:04] the right seat actually comes completely up [23:07] and you can just keep stuff down here [23:09] if there's no person here. [23:10] Matter of fact, the left two seats come over here, [23:13] also do the same thing. [23:14] I'm gonna get out and pull that latch as well. [23:18] And then that's just, that's a ton of room for activities. [23:21] Look at this, not that that's better than having a seat, [23:24] but you could put a bunch of boxes back here. [23:26] You could put, I don't know, [23:28] you could just put stuff back here. [23:30] Also, there's the nine and a half inch screen [23:32] for the passengers, which is where I discovered [23:34] you can move the passenger seat, [23:38] not the driver's seat on the screen. [23:40] And these are also heated left and right, not middle, [23:42] but heated, left and right rear seats. [23:45] They look ventilated, they look cool, [23:47] but they don't do that. [23:48] Just heat. [23:51] Or you could just like watch a movie [23:52] or direct your airflow. [23:56] Cool. [23:56] Okay, so whenever you're talking about [23:58] a new vehicle like this, [23:59] a new platform like this, [24:00] you gotta talk vehicle controls. [24:02] So as I'm in the driver's seat, [24:03] that's gonna be this new 18 and a half inch touchscreen [24:05] in the center, biggest ever in a Tesla. [24:07] It's also the biggest ever car. [24:09] And this steering wheel, which I got a lot to say about it, [24:13] but you're gonna notice [24:14] it looks pretty familiar to any other Tesla. [24:16] But they have made some key changes [24:19] that I think I actually like a lot. [24:21] There's still no stalks, there's still no blinker stalks, [24:24] still no drive, reverse, all that stuff. [24:27] But the buttons on the steering wheel [24:29] are at least now haptic like actual buttons. [24:33] They're not haptic touch controls [24:34] where you touch it and it vibrates to simulate a button. [24:36] Now it actually clicks and moves this time. [24:38] So that's awesome. [24:40] So at least that's better. [24:41] So that's the blinkers on the steering wheel. [24:43] That's your headlights. [24:44] That's your giant windshield wiper, [24:46] which I'll talk about. [24:47] And your voice controls, [24:48] you still got your wheels up and down [24:49] for volume of media and your autopilot controls. [24:53] And then this sort of a flat squirkle, [24:56] I guess is what you'd call it, [24:57] like a squared off circle type thing for the steering wheel. [25:00] Oh, and then (horn honking) [25:03] it's a real horn this time. [25:05] There's no like button on the steering wheel horn [25:07] like in my car. [25:08] So I really appreciate that. [25:10] Also, again, no Tesla logo on the steering wheel. [25:13] It's a Cybertruck like trapezoid silhouette type thing. [25:16] So again, I think the only Tesla logo in the whole car [25:19] is literally the key, same as every other Tesla. [25:23] But that brings us of course to the new software. [25:25] So I think they've done an actually really, really good job [25:28] with the software in this all new cyber UI. [25:31] So, if you've used a Tesla before, [25:33] it's laid out the exact same way, [25:35] but it's all themed in a very Cybertruck way. [25:37] But there's some new little things that they've done. [25:39] It's really well thought out. [25:40] And I still honestly, after using it, [25:42] I really feel like Tesla has the best software [25:44] in the car industry that's not CarPlay and Android Auto. [25:48] So first of all, you start with just this huge Cybertruck [25:51] in the middle for all your vehicle controls. [25:54] There's little hovering dots. [25:55] So if you want to open the tailgate [25:58] or open the Tonneau cover, you can do that [26:00] with any of these little hovering buttons. [26:03] Open the charge port flap, charge port flap, cool. [26:08] But then all of the rest of the looks about the car, [26:12] you can adjust in real time. [26:14] So first of all, ride height, [26:16] you tap the wheel there [26:17] we are at the sort of a entry ride height [26:20] where it squats to be as easy as possible to get into. [26:23] You can also go low, medium or high [26:25] and it adjusts super fast. [26:27] There's a pretty awesome 12 inches of suspension travel [26:30] between the lowest mode and the highest mode. [26:33] You can go all the way up to 17 inches [26:35] of clearance in off-road mode. [26:37] Extract mode is the absolute highest. [26:39] It'll add another 80 millimeters of clearance, [26:41] but it'll go a foot down from that. [26:43] So that's pretty sick. [26:44] And there are aluminum skid plates [26:45] slash aero shields at the bottom of the truck. [26:48] I continue to move around. [26:50] If I lower the window, for example, [26:52] look at the window on the car, [26:54] halfway down, halfway down. [26:57] I go all the way down on this window, [26:59] all the way down on that window. [27:00] So that's real time. [27:02] I get my lights in real time. [27:03] I have the headlights down here. [27:06] If I even turn the steering wheel, [27:09] all of that moves in real time. [27:11] And it's kind of on this like Mars terrain, [27:13] cyber terrain, whatever you wanna call it. [27:15] I think that's sweet. [27:16] So you just get a full overview of the car there. [27:17] If you've got your media, your navigation, [27:20] it's telling me if I need to close my door [27:21] or fasten my seatbelt, [27:23] and this is my range indicator up here, [27:25] 223 miles right now, which if I tap it is 76% battery, [27:29] pretty close to what I'm expecting. [27:31] And then you see your navigation, [27:33] which basically if you just swipe over, [27:35] you can fill that right two thirds of the screen [27:38] with navigation and keep your vehicle controls on the left. [27:41] And when you're in drive, [27:42] that looks just like it normally does in a Tesla [27:43] with other stuff on the road. [27:45] But now you have all your navigation stuff. [27:47] You always have all your stuff in the dock [27:49] down at the bottom, [27:50] heated steering wheel with two levels, [27:53] which is nice now and your heated and cooled front seats, [27:57] which is great. [27:58] So if you just get into controls and dynamics, [28:00] these are sort of the two spaces [28:02] you'll spend the most time. [28:03] Controls is all of the things with just opening and closing, [28:07] unlocking screen brightness, headlights, [28:10] your glove box is a drawer, [28:11] which I think is a little bit unique, [28:14] a button on the screen. [28:15] I kind of wish you still had a button to open the glove box. [28:17] But all of that is here. [28:19] And then dynamics is where you have all [28:23] of your typical like steering [28:25] and acceleration profiles for Tesla. [28:27] So in the triple motor version, [28:29] that would be comfort mode, [28:31] standard mode and beast mode, [28:34] little cringey I guess. [28:35] But that is your maximum acceleration [28:38] and then your ride and handling [28:40] and your preferred ride height. [28:42] If you go custom, you can actually [28:43] individually adjust these things. [28:45] So acceleration, I'm gonna go beast mode, [28:47] but ride and handling, [28:48] maybe you want it to be a little more relaxed [28:50] or a little more focused. [28:52] That just basically means your damping [28:53] and your suspension is either a little firmer [28:56] or a little softer. [28:57] I gotta say though, the steering is, in my opinion, [29:00] the craziest thing about the Tesla Cybertruck. [29:03] Crazier than the design, crazier than the dimensions, [29:05] crazier than everything else about it is the steering. [29:08] So it's a steer by wire system. [29:10] This is the first time Tesla's done this. [29:11] You can't actually change the steering weight [29:14] or steering feel. [29:15] It's always the same ratio all the time. [29:16] But it's crazy for two reasons. [29:18] One, there is rear axle steering [29:21] and it is very, very active and really helpful. [29:24] And two is the total turn is less than 180 degrees [29:29] for your maximum tightest turn. [29:31] Usually you're used to doing [29:32] a whole bunch of movement on the wheel. [29:34] You don't have to do that anymore. [29:36] So that kind of makes the muscle memory [29:38] of grabbing the top of the squirkle useless. [29:40] So first of all, the rear wheel steer, it's awesome. [29:43] It's up to 10 degrees in the opposite direction [29:46] of the front wheels. [29:47] At low speeds under 40 miles an hour. [29:49] And what that does, if you've heard of this before, [29:51] it effectively shortens the wheel base [29:53] and allows you to turn way, way tighter. [29:56] I think we'll do a sort of a comparison [29:57] with the F-150 Lightning, [29:59] which is a normal truck that doesn't have [30:01] 10 degrees of rear wheel steer. [30:02] And this one, it just means you can turn way sharper. [30:06] It feels way more nimble in parking lots. [30:08] It feels like it shrinks the wheel base, [30:10] the whole dimensions of the truck. [30:12] It's great, it takes some getting used to, [30:14] but it's very useful. [30:15] And then at higher speeds above 40 miles an hour [30:18] is when it actually changes one or two degrees [30:20] in the same direction as the front wheel. [30:23] So that's gonna feel more like lengthening the wheel base [30:26] and a more stable movement [30:27] changing between lanes at highway speed, stuff like that. [30:30] But the fact that your entire steering radius [30:34] is right there in less than one turn, [30:37] like half a turn, is crazy. [30:39] It takes some getting used to. [30:41] It is awesome that you can turn around so easily [30:44] and make those tight parking lot maneuvers [30:46] and make this big truck feel smaller. [30:49] But it is, it's really, it's a lot. [30:52] It's gonna take some getting used to, [30:54] but I think we should just get to driving this thing. [30:57] So let's do it. [30:58] Let's drive the Cybertruck. [31:00] All right, driving the Tesla Cybertruck. [31:06] Feels like a Doug Miro way to start the video, [31:08] but man, okay, it still doesn't really feel [31:11] like a real vehicle, but it definitely is. [31:14] And first impression really is, [31:19] well okay, it feels like a Tesla. [31:21] That's not gonna be a shocker. [31:22] Really instant throttle response. [31:25] This is the triple motor version, it's the beast. [31:29] But also like spacing wise. [31:30] I'm just looking around, [31:31] just trying to feel how big this vehicle is. [31:33] This is a small road, school bus. [31:35] I'm able to maneuver around though. [31:38] I have pretty good visibility everywhere. [31:40] I'm just thinking a lot about [31:41] where the nose of the truck is, [31:44] because it is such a short nose. [31:45] It's a really different, different ratio. [31:48] I'm not used to the hood being that short [31:50] compared to where the windshield is, [31:52] but either way it's pretty quiet. [31:55] I will say these laminated windows do a good job [31:59] of sealing out all the noise. [32:01] They also happen to be shatterproof. [32:03] The truck also happens to be allegedly bulletproof. [32:07] I'm not testing that in this video, [32:08] but you've seen the pictures. [32:11] So the idea is it's really well built. [32:14] I'm just trying to figure out, [32:15] all right, this feels nimble, right? [32:17] Steering is the way it's not gonna change. [32:20] So this is the way it always is. [32:23] Getting used to the steering is really gonna be [32:24] the number one thing for people. [32:26] They're not gonna be used to [32:27] the entire steering being less than an entire turn. [32:31] It's a half a turn, 180 degrees, I think it's 170, [32:34] and it is a pretty big truck, [32:37] but it's, I feel like it's a tiny bit smaller [32:40] than the F-150 Lightning. [32:41] I think they did a good job [32:42] of giving you as much space as you can. [32:44] Like this is a spacious cabin, [32:45] spacious back seats as I showed you, [32:48] and a full six foot bed. [32:50] But it's got the smallest front. [32:52] Even smaller than the smaller Rivian R1T. [32:55] So they've kind of pushed around [32:57] the dimensions a little bit. [32:58] But second thing is just the vast distance [33:01] between me and the front of the windshield [33:03] and then I just straight up can't see the front of the car. [33:06] I can't see the nose no matter how high I look. [33:09] That's just different, very different. [33:13] Something I'm gonna have to get used to. [33:14] Okay, love that the button blinkers [33:18] are actually physical buttons [33:20] and now we're on a bit of a crazier road [33:22] so we can... (car buzzing quietly) [33:23] Holy, come on. [33:27] That's crazy. [33:29] Actually, the suspension pretty firm right now [33:32] and there is a large delta between the firmest suspension [33:36] and the softest suspension that you can have. [33:39] The body itself, thanks to the stainless steel, [33:41] thanks to the way it's built is very, [33:43] very stiff, torsionally stiff. [33:45] It's very rigid. [33:47] And so all of that effort to be either soft or firm [33:50] goes on the suspension [33:51] and they have a really good suspension, [33:53] really good travel, really fast travel. [33:55] It really is very quiet. [33:56] Okay, a couple other interesting things that you note. [33:59] One is like huge amount of glass, [34:01] world's largest windshield is pretty funny. [34:04] I think with every Tesla I've reviewed [34:05] for the past couple years, [34:06] there's always been one muscle memory remap required [34:10] to get used to this thing. [34:10] And I think with previous Teslas, [34:12] like we all know about the center screen, [34:14] you're used to checking right in front of you for the speed. [34:16] Now you have to look over to the side. [34:17] Just a little remap there. [34:19] With the yolk steering wheel [34:20] and the buttons on the steering wheel, [34:22] that's a remap people have to adjust to. [34:24] They're pretty stubborn about this stuff. [34:26] With this one, it's gonna be that there [34:28] is no rear visibility with the mirror [34:31] when the tonneau cover's closed. [34:33] So my tonneau cover's closed right now, [34:35] can't see anything behind me, [34:37] but I've sort of started to remap my glance behind me [34:41] to the preview of the rear facing camera, [34:44] which is on the screen all the time. [34:46] And so I just keep glancing there to see what's behind me. [34:48] You can actually move it to the left or right hand side [34:50] so you get a bigger preview when it's on the right [34:52] or you can just move it on the left. [34:54] So yeah, that's the Cybertruck. [34:55] Muscle memory remap is your rear view mirror [34:58] doesn't have a camera mode. [34:59] So if you wanna check behind you [35:01] while the tonneau cover's closed, [35:02] you're looking down there. [35:04] All right, we got a nice little highway coming up. [35:06] I like instinctively put my hand on this side of the wheel [35:08] to get ready for a big turn. [35:09] - Oh my god. - But I don't have to do it [35:11] because it's so little. [35:14] It's a little turn. [35:14] All right, let's get on the highway. [35:19] So you don't need a ton of horsepower [35:21] for regular pickup truck stuff, [35:23] but merging onto a highway, [35:25] makes a lot of sense. [35:27] Let me get some space between the car in front of me. [35:31] Oh my God, on all season tires, all terrain tires. [35:38] Shouldn't be able to do that. [35:40] A couple other interesting things though about this truck. [35:42] One, world's largest windshield wiper is hilarious. [35:48] It looks ridiculous. [35:50] It might be logistically ridiculous too. [35:53] I don't know if in the ice or the snow, [35:56] if it's gonna be able to like break apart [35:58] enough ice to move that huge windshield wiper. [36:01] There's probably a much bigger motor to move it, [36:04] but it works. [36:07] So Neil, if you're wondering, [36:08] it doesn't quite cover the entire windshield, [36:11] but it does go above my head [36:13] and cover 75% of what the passenger's gonna see too. [36:16] So I feel like it's working at least. [36:19] And then the other thing to note is for your road tripping [36:21] totally compatible with all the Tesla superchargers, [36:24] it has all of the autopilot stuff that other Teslas have, [36:26] but it's also now an 800 volt architecture. [36:30] And what that basically means [36:31] is it's able to charge faster at V4 superchargers [36:34] and it's able to make total wires thinner. [36:37] because they conduct better and they're more efficient. [36:40] And so the total wire weight of the car goes down [36:43] for all of the high voltage systems. [36:44] It also has a 48 volt low voltage system, [36:48] which is four times the normal 12 volts [36:50] you'd see in most cars. [36:51] So in general this is, it feels future proof [36:54] for that reason, but it'll still charge just the same [36:57] as any other Tesla V3 and V2 superchargers. [37:00] A little more road noise too, [37:02] you notice in a little more, [37:03] a little more all-terrain tread [37:05] coming through to the cabin. [37:08] These bespoke tires I'm told do have foam in them, [37:10] but you can still hear it and feel it. [37:14] Tiny bit of steering feel, that's weird. [37:16] Teslas are usually pretty numb, [37:18] but this does have some steering feel. [37:20] Now probably the funniest, most interesting option [37:22] that I'm told about with this truck [37:24] is the extended battery option. [37:26] So all the cyber trucks will have [37:28] the same 123 kilowatt hour battery size. [37:31] But as we all know, long road trips [37:34] and towing and hauling things especially [37:36] takes a toll on your battery. [37:37] So there will be an optional battery, [37:40] an add-on battery that you put in the trunk [37:43] that adds 120 miles of range. [37:46] It also adds a ton of weight [37:47] 'cause now you're hauling around a huge battery, [37:49] but now you have close to a 400, 450 mile range truck, [37:54] which might be what people need [37:56] to haul big things if they're gonna work with it. [37:59] It's interesting. [38:00] I really feel like the biggest strength of the Cybertruck [38:02] is it's gotta be the power, the sheer force [38:07] of 2.7 seconds, zero to 60, 850 ish horsepower [38:13] like no other truck moves [38:16] in a straight line like this one does. [38:18] But I'm also gonna include the steering as a pro, [38:21] you gotta get used to it. [38:23] But again, that tight turning radius [38:25] and how nimble it feels like on a highway [38:28] that's remarkably responsive. [38:30] Like I can turn my wheel like this in a Model S Plaid [38:33] and it does not feel as responsive as this. [38:36] That's a crazy thing to say. [38:37] So then it's downside is gonna be one, [38:42] just that people think it's ugly and that's fine. [38:46] A lot of people are gonna think it's ugly. [38:48] And two is it's more expensive than we originally thought. [38:50] It doesn't have that price advantage. [38:52] I am driving a hundred thousand dollars truck right now. [38:55] There's no way around that. [38:57] The F-150 Lightning I'm following right now [38:59] is gonna cost significantly less. [39:00] The Rivian R1T and the and the Hummer [39:03] are also very expensive, [39:04] but it's no longer an advantage [39:06] that we might have thought it was gonna be. [39:08] Now this isn't a review. [39:09] I haven't towed anything with this. [39:10] I haven't used any of the trailer features. [39:12] I haven't filled it up with rocks [39:14] and mud and gotten it dirty. [39:15] I haven't off roaded at all. [39:17] There's a total separate off-road mode [39:19] in the thing I haven't used. [39:20] I haven't road tripped in it. [39:22] I haven't lived with it. [39:23] I do have an order so I plan on doing all that. [39:25] So make sure you get subscribed [39:26] to see the full review of the Cybertruck when it comes out. [39:29] But I think generally, as this is my second impressions ever [39:32] and first time ever driving the thing, [39:34] I think they really got themselves something solid here. [39:37] We're gonna have to see about fit and finish. [39:40] A lot of, let's see, a lot of wait and see, [39:42] but I'm impressed with this. [39:44] I'm impressed. [39:46] So lemme know what you think. [39:47] Obviously, there're gonna be [39:48] some polarizing thoughts on the looks. [39:49] Let me know if you're in the, [39:51] this thing is ugly and I'll never buy it camp. [39:52] Why is this thing looking like [39:53] a stainless steel refrigerator on wheels? [39:55] I totally get it, [39:57] but lemme know what you think about Cybertruck [39:59] versus F-150 Lightning versus Rivian R1T. [40:04] Let me know if there are other things [40:05] you want to see in a video [40:06] then get subscribed to me [40:07] among the first to see that stuff. [40:11] I think that's about it for this one. [40:12] Thanks for watching. [40:13] Catch you later, peace. [40:16] (upbeat music)
