[00:16] thank [00:18] you thank you my [00:21] friends thank you for coming here on [00:24] this beautiful Arizona evening [00:29] [Applause] [00:31] my friends we have we have come to the [00:33] end of a long journey the American [00:36] people have spoken and they have spoken [00:39] clearly a little while ago I had the [00:42] honor of calling Senator Barack Obama to [00:45] congratulate [00:47] him [00:49] please to congratulate him on being [00:53] elected the next president of the [00:54] country that we both [00:58] love in a contest as long and difficult [01:01] as this campaign has been his success [01:04] alone commands my respect for his [01:07] ability and [01:09] perseverance but that he managed to do [01:11] so by inspiring the hopes of so many [01:13] millions of Americans who would once [01:16] wrongly believed that they had little at [01:18] stake or little influence in the [01:20] election of an American president is [01:23] something I deeply admire and commend [01:26] him for [01:27] achieving this is an historic election [01:31] and I recognize the special significance [01:33] it has for [01:35] African-Americans and for the special [01:37] Pride that must be theirs tonight I've [01:40] always believed that America offers [01:44] opportunities to all who have the [01:46] industry and will to seize it Senator [01:49] Obama believes that too but we both [01:52] recognize that though we have come a [01:54] long way from the old injustices that [01:57] once stained our nation's reputation [02:00] and denied some Americans the full [02:03] blessings of American [02:05] citizenship the memory of them still had [02:08] the power to wound a century ago [02:12] president Theodore Roosevelt's [02:14] invitation of Booker T Washington to to [02:17] dine at the White House was taken as an [02:20] outrage in many [02:22] quarters America today is a world away [02:25] from the cruel and prideful bigotry of [02:28] that time there is no better evidence of [02:31] this than the election of an [02:34] African-American to the presidency of [02:36] the United States let there be no reason [02:41] [Applause] [02:44] now let there be no reason now for any [02:48] American to fail to cherish their [02:50] citizenship in this the greatest nation [02:53] on Earth [03:00] Senator Obama has achieved a great thing [03:02] for himself and for his country I [03:05] applaud him for it and offer in my [03:09] sincere sympathy that his beloved [03:11] grandmother did not live to see this day [03:14] though our faith assures us she is at [03:16] rest in the presence of her Creator and [03:19] so very proud of the good man she helped [03:22] raise Senator Obama and I have had and [03:25] argued our differences and he has [03:28] prevailed no doubt many of those [03:31] differences remain these are difficult [03:34] times for our country and I pledge to [03:37] him tonight to do all in my power to [03:39] help him lead us through the many [03:41] challenges we face I urge all [03:50] Americans I urge all Americans who [03:52] supported me to join me in not just [03:55] congratulating him but offering our next [03:58] president our good will and Earnest [04:01] effort to find ways to come together to [04:05] find the necessary compromises to bridge [04:07] our differences and help restore our [04:11] prosperity defend our security in a [04:14] dangerous world and leave our children [04:16] and grandchildren a stronger better [04:20] country than we [04:21] inherited whatever our differences we [04:24] are fellow Americans and please believe [04:27] me when I say no Association has ever [04:31] meant more to me than [04:33] [Applause] [04:42] that it is [04:44] natural it's natural tonight to feel [04:46] some disappointment but tomorrow we must [04:50] move Beyond it and work together to get [04:52] our country moving again we fought we [04:57] fought as hard as we could and though we [05:00] fell short the failure is mine not [05:08] yours I am [05:22] so I am so deeply grateful to all of you [05:25] for the great honor of your support and [05:28] for all you have done for for me I wish [05:31] the outcome had been different my [05:32] friends the road was a difficult one [05:35] from the [05:36] outset but your support and friendship [05:39] never wavered I cannot adequately [05:42] Express how deeply I indebted I am to [05:46] you I especially grateful to my wife [05:49] Cindy my children my dear [05:55] Mother my dear Mother and all my family [05:58] and to the many old and dear friends who [06:01] have stood by my side through the many [06:03] ups and downs of this long [06:05] campaign I have always been a fortunate [06:08] man and never more so for the love and [06:11] encouragement you have given me you know [06:15] campaigns are often harder on a [06:16] candidate's family than on the candidate [06:19] and that's been true in this campaign [06:22] all I can offer in compensation is my [06:24] love and gratitude and the promise of [06:27] more peaceful years ahead [06:30] I am also I am also of course very [06:34] thankful to Governor Sarah Palin one of [06:37] the best campers I have ever [06:55] seen one of the best campaigners I have [06:58] ever seen and an impressive new voice in [07:01] our party for reform and the principles [07:04] that have always been our greatest [07:06] strength her husband Todd and their five [07:09] beautiful [07:13] children for their tireless dedication [07:16] to our cause and the courage and Grace [07:18] they showed in the Rough and Tumble of a [07:21] presidential campaign we can all look [07:24] forward with great interest to her [07:26] future service to Alaska the Republican [07:29] party in our [07:35] country to all my campaign comrades from [07:39] Rick Davis and Steve Schmidt and Mark [07:41] alter to every last volunteer who fought [07:45] so hard and valiantly month after month [07:49] in what at times seemed to be the most [07:52] challenged campaign in modern times [07:55] thank you so much a lost election will [07:59] never mean more to me than the privilege [08:02] of your faith and friendship I don't [08:05] know I don't know what more we could [08:08] have done to try to win this election [08:10] I'll leave that to others to determine [08:14] every candidate makes mistakes and I'm [08:16] sure I made my share of them but I won't [08:19] spend a moment of the future regretting [08:22] what might have been this campaign was [08:26] and Will Remain the great honor of my [08:28] life and my heart is filled with nothing [08:31] but gratitude for the experience and to [08:34] the American people for giving me a fair [08:37] hearing before deciding that Senator [08:40] Obama and my old friend Senator Joe [08:43] Biden should have the honor of leading [08:45] us for the next four [08:48] years you deserve please [08:52] please I would not I would not be an an [08:56] American worthy of the name should I [08:58] regret a fate that is allowed me the [09:01] extraordinary PR privilege of serving [09:04] this country for a half a century today [09:08] I was a candidate for the highest office [09:10] in the country I love so much and [09:13] tonight I remain her servant that is [09:16] blessing enough for anyone and I thank [09:19] the people of Arizona for [09:26] it tonight [09:31] tonight more than any night I hold in my [09:34] heart nothing but love for this country [09:37] and for all its citizens whether they [09:40] supported me or Senator Obama whether [09:43] they supported me or Senator Obama I [09:46] wish godspeed to the man who was my [09:48] former opponent and will be my president [09:51] and I call on all Americans as I have [09:55] often in this campaign to not despair of [09:58] our present difficult ulties but to [10:00] believe always in the promise and [10:02] greatness of America because nothing is [10:05] inevitable here Americans never quit we [10:09] Never Surrender we never hide from [10:12] history We Make History thank you and [10:16] God bless you and God bless America [10:18] thank you all very much [10:29] W
